I am an UX designer, HCI researcher, who is always on her way towards bringing better human-centered design to the world.
Currently I am a Master of Educational Technology and Applied Learning Sciences student at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute, School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, and a graduate HCI Researcher at HCII, advised by Professor Vincent Aleven.
Before joining CMU, I received my bachelor's in Visual Communication Design & Digital Media Arts from Nanjing University of the Arts. My research interests lie in the study and design of AI-driven intelligent education systems and the transformative impact of social computing technology.

▪ Research on how children with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDH) learn language based on their varying hearing conditions and abilities with the assistance of cochlear implants, utilizing Information and CommunicationTechnology (ICT).

▪ Research Design and Implementation Expertise: Collaborated with multiple technical staff to develop VR prototypes and orchestrated intricate user experiments.
▪Data Collection and Analysis: Processed and curated interview image data using MAXQDA. Conducted data entry matching, informatics, details detection and correction, and removal of special characters and duplicates, etc.
▪ Results published to ACM CHI 2024 and ACM Chinese CHI 2023.
Design Empowering Rural Revitalization
▪ Advisor: Dr. Di Ye
▪ Performed 30+ in-depth field studies and analyzed data from 3,000+ questionnaires using SPSS.
▪ Provided actionable recommendations to identify and drive opportunities for the product roadmap, which received accolades from the local government.
▪ Led an interactive design project for a museum digital exhibition and website using Figma, Unity, and C4D, resulting in a 40% increase in visitor engagement and a 30% boost in online traffic and won a top competition in China (The 18th Challenge Cup National College Student Curricular Academic Science).
The Spread of Intangible Cultural Heritage Dance, Provincial Entrepreneurship Program
▪ Advisor: Dr. Jie Jiang
▪ Conducted 6 field surveys with reports totaling over 5,000 words, compiled six document archives of approximately 2,500 words, collected 669 photos, recorded 90 video clips (198 minutes), and createdover 40 original hand-drawn meticulous paintings.
▪ Spearheaded the creation of the 'UX SPACE for the Global Service- Shanghai team with product manager, resulting in a successful launch and drawing 500+ visitors, elevated the department s prominence within the company and forged partnerships with design consulting firms.
▪ Strategized for the product direction by leveraging the findings of users preference and concerns from desk research, user interview and survey to shape business decisions during 3 workshops with the inner cooperation team.
▪ Working closely with Fortune 500 companies across establishing 10+ visualdesign solutions and brochure guidelines, engaging with B2C stakeholders.
▪ Designed the main visual promotional posters for curating more than five art exhibitions, collectively drawing in 10,000+ visitors.
From 2020 to the present (2024), Liyi has received 30+ awards in fields such as design, innovation and entrepreneurship, and technology competitions. Regarding scholarships, she was awarded the Outstanding Student Scholarship every year during her undergraduate studies, along with the university's highest honor scholarship (awarded to fewer than seven students annually). During her graduate studies, she received a merit-based scholarship of $3,333 per semester. Additionally, she is passionate about public service, with a total of 221+ hours of volunteer work.
